U 1344 − 60 : a bright intermediate Seyfert galaxy at z = 0 . 012 with a relativistic Fe K α emission line ⋆
We present analysis of the optical and X-ray spectra of the low Galactic latitude bright (F2−10 = 3.6 × 10 erg cm s) source 4U 1344−60. On the basis of the optical data we propose to classify 4U 1344−60 as an intermediate type Seyfert galaxy and we measure a value of z = 0.012±0.001 for its redshift. From the XMM– Newton observation we find that the overall X–ray spectral shape of 4U 1344−60 is...
متن کاملRelativistic Iron Line Emission from the Neutron Star Low-mass X-ray Binary 4u 1636-536
We present an analysis of XMM-Newton and RXTE data from three observations of the neutron star LMXB 4U 1636-536. The X-ray spectra show clear evidence of a broad, asymmetric iron emission line extending over the energy range 4–9 keV. The line profile is consistent with relativistically broadened Fe K-α emission from the inner accretion disk. The Fe K-α line in 4U 1636-536 is considerably broade...
متن کاملThe line–of–sight distribution of the gas in the inner 60 pc of the Galaxy
2MASS KS band data of the inner 60 pc of the Galaxy are used to reconstruct the line-of-sight distances of the giant molecular clouds located in this region. Using the 2MASS H band image of the same region, two different populations of point sources are identified according to their flux ratio in the two bands. The population of blue point sources forms a homogeneous foreground that has to be s...
متن کاملThe relativistic iron line profile in the Seyfert 1 Galaxy IC4329a
We present simultaneous ASCA and RXTE data on the bright Seyfert 1 galaxy IC4329a. The iron line is significantly broadened, but not to the extent expected from an accretion disk which extends down to the last stable orbit around a black hole. We marginally detect a narrow line component, presumably from the molecular torus, but even including this gives a line profile from the accretion disk w...
متن کاملSources of Relativistic Jets in the Galaxy
Black holes of stellar mass and neutron stars in binary systems are first detected as hard X-ray sources using high-energy space telescopes. Relativistic jets in some of these compact sources are found by means of multiwavelength observations with ground-based telescopes. The X-ray emission probes the inner accretion disk and immediate surroundings of the compact object, whereas the synchrotron...
